Querl Dox (aka Brainiac 5) is from 31st century Colu, a planet of super-intelligent sentients. As the successor to the Brainiac line, his inherited intellect surpasses even that of his genius race—to a potentially dangerous degree.

Needless to say the name "Brainiac" doesn't carry the most positive connotations. And while Querl never purposefully attempted to hurt others, he was always reckless with his experiments, unconcerned with any damage he caused or how very expensive high-tech lab equipment could be. To a people who long ago decided to forsake applied experimentation for "pure" thought, the young Brainiac child quickly became more trouble than he was worth.

It was only after being handed off to several other institutions that Querl was drafted into the Legion of Superheroes, a team of superpowered teens from across the galaxies assembled to combat crime in the name of the United Planets. He's been with them for some time now, and while his personality can be... grating at times, he's at least come to consider his teammates as trusted companions (at least, most of them) and friends (at least... a few).
